Pundit: Hendry has played his last game for Celtic after big development

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Jack Hendry has played his last match for Celtic despite his impressive form on loan, according to Frank McAvennie.

The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, described talk of the 25-year-old returning to Parkhead next season as "just hype".

Hendry has spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at KV Oostende and has made 24 appearances across all competitions.

He could return to Celtic Park this summer, where he is under contract until June 2022.

But, as revealed by Football Insider, Celtic are powerless to stop Hendry leaving this summer, with Oostende set to trigger their optional £1.75million purchase clause on a player whose value has climbed to £5m.

Hendry may then engineer a move down south to the Premier League in the summer.

"If Celtic saw something in him, surely they would have recalled him from his loan because the defence has been terrible this season," he told Football Insider.

"I think there is just hype around him at the moment.

"I think Hendry will have a good career, but I just do not think that will be at Celtic. He might surprise me though.

"Football is cruel, you have got to take your chance and he did not.

"John Kennedy is saying he might come back but I don't think John will be there to make that decision."

Speaking on his future to Het Laatste Nieuws last week, Hendry said: “I’m not going to lie, I’m ambitious and want to play at the highest possible level.

"We’ll see where that is – I won’t let it distract me. At the end of this season, I will make a decision that is best for my career.”
