Pundit swipes at 'raging' Bruce after 'bizarre' Newcastle update

Frank McAvennie insists Steve Bruce will be regretting his post-match outburst after his Newcastle side lost to Manchester United on Saturday.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the Toon bosses comments.

Quoted by the Daily Mail after the loss to Man United, Bruce sarcastically asked if he should be "delighted" about the away end calling for his head on Saturday.

He also took aim at local paper The Chronicle and blasted them for their choice of questions after the 4-1 defeat.

McAvennie claims Newcastle's problems won't change until Mike Ashley leaves the club but insists Bruce isn't helping himself with his outbursts.

"Bruce will have regretted that," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"It's just human nature to give something back after you get criticised. He was probably raging during the interview but he will have regretted it.

"Bruce is in a really hard position, he's working with what he's got. The owner hasn't backed him and until Ashley goes, nothing will change.

"What's he playing at? It was bizarre. With those comments but I can understand what he's saying. He's clearly very frustrated.

"Whoever comes in after Bruce, it will be the same unless the owner changes.

"Not one team would have gone to Old Trafford and won at the weekend, it was one of those occasions."

Newcastle have conceded 12 goals in four Premier League games this season, more than any other side.

The Toon are next in action against Leeds United on Friday night.
