Leeds United have to find a manager who can get them back to the Premier League next season.

Paul Heckingbottom is not that man. He proved that in the second half of last season with Leeds after an average run with Barnsley in the Championship.

We're still convinced that Leeds are going to bin him shortly and install a new manager in place for the summer transfer window and pre-season.

And that man should be Mick McCarthy.

He's got previous. He's won the Championship with Sunderland and Wolves, and he's ready to do it again with another side.

And Andrea Radrizzani should make sure that's Leeds.

McCarthy has issued what amounts to a come-and-get-me plea to all Championship clubs with ambitions of promotion.

Talking in the Daily Mail, the 59-year-old said:  "I want to work in the Championship or the Premier League.

"If I could get a Championship job with a chance of getting in the Premier League, that would be great.

"What gives me inspiration is Roy Hodgson going in at Palace, Warny (Neil Warnock) at Cardiff. Get them organised, hard to beat, know what they are doing. Play good football. Win. I put myself in that bracket."

Now that's exactly what Leeds need. Someone who's been there, done it, wants to create a team that's hard to beat, but one that plays good football.

McCarthy might not be every Leeds fan's first choice but he's the man who could finally get them back to the top-flight. Then it would be time to think again.

First things first though.
