Rangers can't afford Bojan Miovski, he could join Celtic instead - expert

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Rangers look set to miss out on a deal to sign Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski due to their lack of funds - and Celtic have now been backed to complete a deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops man Frank McAvennie insisted Miovski would do a better job at Celtic than he would at Rangers due to his style of play.

Instead, he insisted Hearts' Lawrence Shankland would do a better job and the club should be focusing on bringing him to the club after missing out in January.

However, the financial situation at Ibrox could limit their space to manoeuvre in the transfer market, and they have been tipped to miss out on both options.

McAvennie is adamant Philippe Clement's side does not have the necessary funds to land a deal for Miovski this summer, and could also miss out on Shankland as a result.

"They can't sign Miovski, they've not got that kind of money," he told Football Insider.

"Lawrence Shankland is the one. They should've signed Shankland in January but they didn't, and they should sign him now but they won't.

"For me, at Rangers, he'd be a better prospect than Miovski.

"Rangers just need a goalscorer, and that's what Shankland is.

"Miovski would do well at Rangers but I don't think they've got enough money for him.

"I think he'd be a better signing for Celtic anyway, because of the way he plays with his runs in behind and his movement, all of that.

"Both of them would be good players for Rangers, but they don't have the money for them."
