Sources: Rangers plan to suspend four players for rest of season
Rangers are discussing plans to suspend the four players who breached lockdown rules for the rest of the season, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The club launched an internal probe on Sunday night after police broke up a party at a flat in the west end of Glasgow in the early hours of Sunday night.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that club chiefs are today considering very strong punishments for the players' alleged breach of Covid-19 protocols.
It is believed one plan of action being internally discussed by management is for the four players under investigation to be suspended for the rest of the 2020-21 campaign.
That would effectively mean three-month football bans for the miscreant quartet.
They would be even stronger punishments than those given to Jordan Jones and George Edmundson last November.
Rangers suspended the pair at the time and they were later handed seven-match bans by the Scottish FA.
Football Insider exclusively broke the news at 7pm on Sunday that Rangers had launched an internal probe into the latest incident, which was confirmed by the club through a Twitter statement an hour later.
It is understood that manager Steven Gerrard was "apoplectic" when learning on Sunday that police had to break-up a party attended by his players the previous night.
Managing director Stewart Robertson previously warned the players of their conduct after the incident in a club statement.
Winger Jones and defender Edmundson were frozen out of the team by Gerrard before being loaned out in January to Sunderland and Derby County respectively.
There have been other serious breaches of the rules in Scotland this season, most notably by Celtic and Aberdeen players.
