'Really exciting stuff' - Lovenkrands reveals what has fired Rangers up for next season
Newly appointed Rangers reserve team coach Peter Lovenkrands has fired a warning to the rest of Scottish football.
The former Scottish Premiership title winner claims that the Ibrox side have been galvanised by the appointment of new boss Steven Gerrard, and that the club will be looking to get back to the top of Scottish football next season.
"It's really, really exciting stuff with Steven Gerrard coming in" Lovenkrands said, in an appearance on Sky Sports News.
"I think it will benefit the club hugely. Glasgow Rangers football club is always about winning titles and being number one, next year it will be the exact same thing again, going for the top spot again."
Gerrard begun his job in earnest this week, with his players starting pre-season training on Friday as his revolution gets underway.
Football Insider verdict
Peter Lovenkrands and everyone else associated with Rangers are well within their rights to be excited about the prospect of Steven Gerrard being in charge of the club. Of course, the proof of the pudding will be on the pitch, but Gerrard seems to be going about his business well enough so far. He has identified a weakness of the Gers team by bringing in two centre-backs, and you wouldn't bet against a striker being next on the list of potential signings. Will the changes made by Gerrard be enough to stop Brendan Rodgers' Celtic from winning their eighth title in a row? It will be a big ask, but at Ibrox the demand for trophies is always there, so Lovenkrands is correct about the Light Blues being all about winning trophies. No doubt Gerrard understands that attitude, and he will be well aware of the demands of the Gers support.
