Leeds United have no interest in signing Middlesborough midfielder warrior Adam Clayton, according to a reliable journalist. Phil Hay, a senior journalist with the Yorkshire Evening Post, has claimed on his Twitter account that there's no basis to the reports that stated Clayton was a target for Thomas Christiansen. The

had claimed thatLeeds United, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City were all keen to sign the 28-year-old midfielder, with Tony Pulis set to make a decision on his future within days. However, Hay has poured cold water on these claims, and when replying to a fan said Leeds had told him, "No, won't be signing him."

Clayton joined Middlesborough from Huddersfield in 2014 for a fee close to £1.7m and it was claimed that Pulis would be looking to make a profit when he sold the player on. Clayton has made 14 appearances in the Championship this season but has struggled for game time since October, making just two appearances.

Football Insider verdict

It looks like Clayton will be moving in January, but not to Leeds. They have more pressing problems, with the long-term injury to Luke Ayling and goals needed up top. Leeds desperately need a reliable striker if they're to push for a play-off place and are currently without Samu Saiz for another five games after his ban for spitting in the FA Cup. Clayton might have been a good signing for Leeds, but they've got bigger fires to fight.
