Both Steve McClaren and Jaap Stam have now been ruled out of the vacant Leeds manager job, according to a reliable journalist. David Anderson, the Mirror's northern football correspondent released the update on his personal Twitter page on Monday lunchtime.

Anderson re-iterated the claim that Leeds are looking to have a new manager installed as quickly as possible, saying that they want to make an appointment in the next 24 to 48 hours. McClaren had been the early favourite for the job after being spotted in the director's box in the loss to Cardiff on Saturday. However, it was later revealed by Phil Hay that he was just there as a guest and would not be in the running for the job. Now it appears that former Reading manager Jaap Stam has been ruled out too after being credited as one of the early betting frontrunners for the job. The new

for the job is Gordon Strachan.

Leeds' next fixture is a tough away trip to Sheffield United on Saturday, with the 12.30pm kick-off being shown on Sky Sports. Leeds will be hoping that their new man is in the dugout by that point, and it's looking like it won't be either Stam or McClaren. In other Leeds news,
