Celtic face competition from Premier League newcomers Hull in the race to sign Wales right-back Chris Gunter, according to a report.

The Sun claim that Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers is weighing up a move for the 26-year-old as he aims to reinforce the team's defence.

But Celtic will have to act quickly as Hull are also ready to meet the £1.1million release clause in Gunter's contract.

It is said that Hull manager Steve Bruce wants Gunter as a replacement for full-back Moses Odubajo, who was ruled out for six months with a knee injury.

Celtic's pursuit could be dependent upon whether they qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.

Rodgers' team play the second leg of their qualifying clash against Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar on Wednesday night after an embarrassing 1-0 first-leg defeat.

The Reading defender was integral to Wales' success at Euro 2016 as they defied all odds to reach the semi-finals.

Former Nottingham Forest defender Gunter has won 73 international caps and made a staggering 66 appearances in all competitions for club and country last season.

The former Cardiff trainee was an ever-present for the Royals in 2015-16, playing a major part in helping the side keep 14 clean sheets in all competitions.

Gunter supplied the cross for Sam Vokes' goal against Belgium, and it will be that attacking outlet on the right flank that Rodgers wants to add to his side.

Leeds are also said to be interested in Gunter, as well as Premier League side Swansea.

In other Celtic transfer news, Rodgers wants to bring in this Super Eagle.
