Arsenal midfielder Ben Sheaf has told the club he wants to leave on loan to Doncaster Rovers, Football Insider understands.

The Gunners academy product, 21, has failed to add to the two senior appearances he made under Arsene Wenger and wants more first-team experience.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider the midfield anchorman, who can also play in defence, has made it clear behind the scenes he is eager to make the move to Yorkshire and join the third-tier outfit.

Grant McCann's side regard Sheaf's pedigree and versatility as real assets and hope he can help them go better than their sixth-place finish last season and secure automatic promotion.

Sheaf is some way down the pecking order at Emirates Stadium and did not see any first-team action under Unai Emery last season, spending the entire campaign in the Under-23s.

This comes after he spend the second half of the previous campaign, in 2017-18, on loan at League Two club Stevenage.

Sheaf, who is an England youth international and represented the country at Under-18 and Under-16 levels, joined Arsenal from West Ham’s academy in 2014.

In other Arsenal news, it can be REVEALED that Hamburg have tabled a formal bid for a Gunners defender.
