Celtic are braced for a Moussa Dembele windfall this summer as Lyon prepare to let him go amid a France-wide fire sale of top stars, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops inserted a sell-on clause worth more than 10 per cent in the £19m transfer that took the striker from Parkhead back to his homeland two years ago and they will benefit from a potential big-money move.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club they would expect a multi-million windfall from a Dembele transfer, even in a market that is set to see transfer fees tumble when the summer window opens.

The striker, who has bagged 22 goals from 42 Lyon matches this season, has continued to develop in France since lighting up the SPL during his two years at Celtic.

He was rated well above £50million by his club before the Covid-19 pandemic changed the financial picture at all levels of the game.

Nevertheless, Lyon would still expect to secure a significant profit on one of their prize assets, from which his former club would also benefit.

The French government last week made the shock decision to ban all sporting events until September as the Ligue 1 campaign was ended with immediate effect.

This is expected to lead to an exodus of leading players as top-flight clubs attempt to recover the losses that estimates suggest will lead to a French £175m financial black hole.

Dembele has been frequently linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Man United most regularly touted as destinations.

The likelihood of him staying at Lyon have diminished after the termination of the campaign left them in seventh and outside of the European places.

Dembele has scored 42 goals in 88 matches for the Ligue 1 outfit as well as 51 goals in 94 Celtic games.
