Everton are set to inform Ashley Williams to find a new club despite an impressive campaign on loan at Stoke City, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, 34, is out of contract at Goodison Park in June and his three-year spell at the club is set to come to an end.

A club source has told Football Insider that Everton are ready to tell Williams he will not get an extension to his contract even though he has been a mainstay for Stoke this season.

The defender has made 23 league starts among 33 appearances for the Championship outfit and kept his place in the Wales squad, featuring in last month's Euro 2020 win over Slovakia.

Everton manager Marco Silva does not believe Williams can be a key player for a club with Premier League top-six ambitions and wants younger defenders challenging for places in his back four.

The team's defence this season has been built around the partnership of Michael Keane and Chelsea loanee Kurt Zouma, with Yerry Mina and veteran Phil Jagielka the back-up centre-backs.
