Daniel Levy has put the block on Christian Eriksen quitting Tottenham this summer by placing a staggering price tag on him, Football Insider sources understand.

The long-standing Spurs chairman has failed to secure the Denmark international, 27, to a new contract despite tabling a series of offers to nearly double his current £75,000-a-week deal.

A club source has told Football Insider that Levy has made it clear behind the scenes at Spurs that he will not sell Eriksen for any less than his £140million valuation of the player.

The north Londoners' chief regards Eriksen as in the same bracket as Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool last year for a Premier League-record fee of £142million including add-ons.

The source explained that Levy has no intention of allowing the 27-year-old to leave for anything less, even though he is out of contract in the summer of 2020.

Coutinho had signed a long-term contract a year before he left and was also two years younger than Eriksen is now, but the chairman is convinced the market is buoyant and he can get a mammoth sum for one of the club's prize assets.

Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on the playmaker ahead of the summer window as they prepare for a major overhaul following a wretched campaign.
