Lukasz Fabianski is "three or four weeks away" from making his West Ham comeback, Football Insider understands.

The team's results have dramatically slumped since the goalkeeper, 32, broke down with a hip injury at the end of September that required surgery.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Fabianski is on course to return to action just before Christmas as he makes sound progress in his rehabilitation.

The Hammer of the Year has been sorely missed over the last two months, with his understudy Roberto Jimenez pilloried for his performances in goal.

The Spaniard has let in 14 goals from six Premier League starts and was the subject of ironic jeers from West Ham fans during Saturday's 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham.

West Ham will not allow Fabianski to be rushed back into action amid fears he could suffer a relapse that rules him out for the long term.

But his significance to the team has been magnified during his absence in which the club have lost five and drawn the other one of their six league matches.

It is a growing crisis that has left Manuel Pellegrini's job under threat amid fears the club could get sucked into a relegation battle.

Fabianski has made a huge impact at the London Stadium since West Ham took advantage of his free agent status following Swansea City's relegation from the Premier League.

He ended his debut campaign by being named the club's player of the year following his consistently impressive efforts in goal.
