Revealed: This is why McInnes snubbed the Rangers manager job

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne has revealed why Derek McInnes decided to stay with the club after a shock twist to the Rangers manager hunt.

McInnes was expected by many to be announced as the new Rangers manager after he failed to take training on Wednesday or Thursday and wasn't at the Aberdeen press conference earlier today.

However, the news broke on Thursday evening that he had snubbed the Rangers offer to stay at Aberdeen.

And, in a statement on the official Aberdeen site, Milne has lifted the lid on the reasons behind McInnes' decision.

"I spoke with Derek who felt it was a major thing to be considered for the managerial position at a club such as Rangers and we agreed that he could have some time to think about the approach and talk it through with his family.

“Over the past 48 hours, I have been in constant dialogue with Derek and having weighed up the opportunity, he has taken the decision to remain as Aberdeen FC manager.

"Derek has also been maintaining close contact with Paul Sheerin ahead of tomorrow’s game at Dundee.

“Derek appreciates all that he has at this club and feels he wants to keep driving the club forward. This is where he wants to be and he feels he very much has unfinished business with Aberdeen FC."

The news has come as a shock to both Rangers and Aberdeen fans, who both took to social media angry at the news.

McInnes now has the job of winning his own supporters back, who think that he showed great disloyalty by entertaining a move to their big rivals.

And he'll find out what sort of reaction he's due tomorrow night as Aberdeen take on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Friday night.
