Manchester United's bid to sign Daniel James has the seal of approval from Sir Alex Ferguson, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League giants are close to sealing the capture of the Swansea City winger after agreeing the terms of a £15million transfer set to be completed in the coming days.

A United source has told Football Insider that legendary manager Ferguson, who has been a club director since retirement, has been privately blown away by the dazzling potential of the 21-year-old.

"Sir Alex is a massive admirer of Dan James and convinced he is destined for big things," the source said. "He would never say that publicly and put too much pressure on him but he has been impressed by the kid.

"He doesn't get too involved in our recruitment but he's certainly excited by the signing of Dan James."

The wide attacker is heading to Old Trafford after his planned January loan-to-buy transfer to Leeds collapsed at the eleventh hour on deadline day in the January window.

James had agreed terms with the Championship giants and completed a medical before Swansea pulled the plug on the deal.

The Wales international returned to the club and produced a series of dazzling performances that had Premier League clubs beating a path to his door.

He scored his first Wales goal in March and ended the season on a high at mid-table Swansea, with his 38 appearances yielding five goals and 10 assists.
