Tottenham have held face-to-face talks with Real Madrid playmaker Dani Ceballos, Football Insider can reveal.

The Londoners have identified the 22-year-old as a prime summer target who can replace Christian Eriksen if he quits in this window.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that club officials have met with Ceballos' camp to discuss him making the move from Spain to the Premier League.

They have been keeping close tabs on the Spain international in recent times and believe he has the talent to make a big impact for Mauricio Pochettino's team.

Their pursuit comes at a time when the future of Eriksen is up in the air as a result of his contract expiring in the summer of 2020 and talks over an extension at deadlock.

Ceballos is a versatile midfielder who can play centrally or in more advanced positions like Eriksen has predominantly done during his six seaons at Spurs.

He has made 56 appearances in two seasons for Real since signing in the summer of 2017 for around £16million from Real Betis.

Ceballos, who has been in and out of Zinedine Zidane's team in the last season, has four more years remaining on his Madrid deal.
