Celtic are set for a "big" pay off thanks to their sell on fee in Jeremie Frimpong's contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton praised the Hoops hierarchy for including the clause in Frimpong's contract when he left in 2021.

The 22-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen after leaving Parkhead in January 2021 in a deal worth up to £11.5million.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (26 August), Chelsea are interested in the defender but it is believed that a sizeable offered would be required for the German club to sell.

The Hoops are believed to have a sell on fee of around 15 per cent for the Netherlands international.

When asked if Frimpong would get game time at Stamford Bridge, Hutton told Football Insider: "You never know.

"It just seems like every player is linked to Chelsea at this moment in time. He has got the potential of course. You look at the likes of Reece James who has got that injury so maybe there is an opportunity there.

"You are talking about big figures if it was Chelsea, they are not shy in paying over the odds anyway.

"I think it works out better for Celtic in the long run if he is doing well and there is the opportunity for a big move, wherever it may be, then it is obviously a good bit of business that they put in that sell on fee into his contract."
