'Sky could walk away' - Exclusive: Legend savages Sturgeon after huge Celtic development
Frank McAvennie has criticised First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon for "playing politics with football" after Celtic and Aberdeen saw their next two fixtures postponed.
The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, could not understand why the Hoops saw their fixtures cancelled but not Kilmarnock.
Sturgeon took the decision to postpone Neil Lennon's side's next two matches after defender Boli Bolignoli admitted that he played against Kilmarnock on Sunday having recently returned from a trip to Spain without quarantining.
The Bhoys games against St Mirren and Aberdeen have been cancelled but last weekend's opponents Kilmarnock have been given the green light to play their scheduled fixtures.
McAvennie claimed that the decision has obstructed Scotland's "time to shine" and even suggested that the cancellation of games could see Sky Sports walk away from their lucrative TV deal with the Scottish Premiership.
"I do not know how they can postpone the Celtic games but not Kilmarnock's. They played on the same pitch," he told Football Insider. "I do not get it.
"It is my own belief that Nicola Sturgeon has made a mess of a couple of things and she is now stamping her authority. She is playing politics with football and it is wrong.
"We do not want any games stopped but if the Celtic games are not going ahead then the Kilmarnock games should not. I think it is definitely a punishment for Celtic and Aberdeen.
"Sky could walk away because they have already missed two games and we are only two games into the season. I thought this was the time for Scotland to shine. There are no English games on and this was a chance for Scotland to stand up and be counted."
