Smith will be 'back in management very soon' after Aston Villa sacking - Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he does not see Dean Smith making an instant return to management with Norwich City after leaving Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa's record Premier League goalscorer insisted Smith should take the time to rest after a "hard three seasons" at Villa Park.
His time in charge of his boyhood club came to an end on Sunday when they suffered their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat.
On the same weekend, Norwich City parted company with Daniel Farke despite his side picking up their first league win of the season over fellow newly-promoted side Brentford.
A Canaries source told Football Insider (November 8) the club will sound out Smith about their vacant managerial position.
This site broke the news (November 7) Norwich had opened talks with ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard about the role.
And Agbonlahor has suggested he is more likely to land the role than Smith.
Asked whether Smith could make an instant return to management, he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t see that happening.
“That’s gossip. They’ll probably go for a Frank Lampard.
“If I was Dean Smith, you’ve had a hard three seasons, you’ve put a lot of work into Aston Villa, I’d take a well-earned break.
“But I’m sure he'll be back in management very soon.”
Norwich City are five points from safety and rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after the opening 11 games of the season.
Aston Villa are in 16th, two points above Burnley who occupy the final relegation place.
