'Someone in the England camp' told to 'have a word' with Anthony Gordon as controversial footage analysed

Anthony Gordon could have landed himself in hot water after scoring England's first goal against Spain at Wembley Stadium.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that someone must pass on a message to the England camp about the winger's behaviour.

Despite the Three Lions cancelling out Lamine Yamal's early opener on Saturday, 26 September, the World Cup champions finally sealed all three points.

Yamal pounced on a mistake from Manchester City's Marc Guehi to give Spain the lead in the 2nd minute, only for Gordon to equalise in the 36th.

The former Newcastle United winger, now of Barcelona, wheeled away in celebration before appearing to bust out a gun celebration.

Last week, Israel's Sayed Abu Farkhi was shown a second yellow for similar, but instead using the corner flag as a makeshift weapon as a celebration.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett believes that Gordon also should have been cautioned, but that the referee didn't want to impact the respect being shown by both sets of players.

"I think he's fortunate, but the reality is on the first one, the guy's pulled out the corner flag, which exaggerates what he's done," he said.

"The referee's taken a firm line, given all security aspects that that referee will have prepared for and the heightened situation that he didn't want anything like that.

"So circumstances often influence the outcome for the referee. I think that when we look at this one, someone needs to have a word in the England camp, celebrate the goal, but not in that particular style.

"There are other things he can do. Because of the way in which the game was played, in an extremely fair manner with respect coming from players on both sides, I think that again has influenced the referee."

Thomas Tuchel has already confirmed that James Trafford will be the starting goalkeeper, despite looking rather shaky against Spain.

Nico O'Reilly could well be injured for the upcoming game on Tuesday, 29 September, meaning that Lewis Hall might feature at left-back.

Jarrad Branthwaite will feel he deserves more minutes, which would force one of Guehi or Ezri Konsa to the bench, though there are fears that the latter has picked up an injury.

Despite normally playing such a key role, England fans could see Jude Bellingham dropped to make way for Morgan Gibbs-White, who only came on in the 83rd minute against Spain.
