Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin is facing three months out with a knee injury in a devastating blow, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker, 25, was already in doubt for the club’s Premier League opener against Chelsea after suffering a training ground knee injury.

Now, it is understood scans have realised the worst fears of Everton medics and Calvert-Lewin has torn his lateral collateral ligament.

He is set to be sidelined for at least 10 weeks, ruling him out until November.

It is the latest setback for injury-plagued Calvert-Lewin after he missed a big chunk of last season with various injuries.

He was only able to make 18 total appearances during the 2021-22 season, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Thanks to Calvert-Lewin's injury, Everton go into their first Premier League game of the season, against Chelsea, without a senior striker.

Richarlison has left the club to join Tottenham while Salomon Rondon remains suspended after being sent off against Brentford last season.

The Toffees' narrowly avoided relegation last season with Calvert-Lewin's absence leading to a lack of attacking threat and, ultimately, goals.

Everton's transfer business is being limited by financial fair play restrictions with Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski the only permanent additions so far this summer.

Calvert-Lewin has made 191 total appearances for the Toffees, scoring 58 goals.

He joined the club from Sheffield United in August 2016.
