Sources: Everton tell Besic to find new club after Martinez's 'phenomenal' claim backfires
Muhamed Besic's seven-year spell at Everton will finally come to an end next month, Football Insider understands.
The midfielder, 28, has been frozen out by Carlo Ancelotti this season and has not played a single game or even been included in a matchday squad.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Besic has been told he is free to find a new club ahead of his contract expiring at the end of June.
He will join Theo Walcott in heading out of Goodison Park after Ancelotti made up his mind on the Southampton loanee.
Besic has long been a misfit at Everton, where he has barely been seen since his loan spell at Sheffield United ended last summer.
The 45-times Bosnia-Herzegovina international hasn't played for the Merseysiders since 2017.
The decision to hand him a five-and-a-half year contract in February 2016, which was sanctioned by former manager Roberto Martinez, has looked a foolish one for a long time.
Besic has been linked with a summer move to Championship outfit Reading.
It is a division he is familiar with after two seasons on loan at Middlesbrough before he spent the entirety of last term at Sheffield United.
He made just two Premier League starts among 13 appearances in all competitions for Chris Wilder's side.
Besic cost Everton £4million in 2014 when he joined from Hungarian side Ferencvaros after impressing at the World Cup in Brazil.
