Hull City are in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire club are putting the finishing touches to a loan deal until the end of the season.

Darlow, 32, has dropped down the pecking order at St James’ Park following the early return of Martin Dubravka from his loan stint at Man United.

Newcastle are well-stocked in the goalkeeping department with established number one Nick Pope backed by Dubravka and Loris Karius, who recently signed a new contract.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe refused to sanction a move for Darlow until after the completion of the League Cup semi-final with Southampton as Dubravka is cup-tied after featuring for United earlier in the competition.

Newcastle hold a 1-0 advantage in the tie after the first leg on Tuesday night (24 January) - with the second leg at St James' Park set to take place on deadline day (31 January).

Darlow's only appearance this season came in the League Cup - a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers in the second round.

The shot-stopper was mostly a backup last season but made a run of eight consecutive Premier League starts - failing to keep a single clean sheet.

He joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in 2014 but was immediately loaned back to Forest for the 2014-15 season.

Darlow, who is under contract until June 2025, has a wealth of experience at Championship level - registering 43 clean sheets across 140 games in the second tier.

Newcastle

Hull sit 16th in the division - eight points clear of the drop zone after 28 games.

Meanwhile, the Magpies are third in the Premier League.
