Man City will block Nathan Ake from joining Newcastle United in January, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Holland international, 26, has been linked with the cash-rich Magpies as they look to strengthen their squad in the upcoming window.

But a City source has told Football Insider that the club are not planning to listen to offers for Ake in January.

Pep Guardiola wants to keep his senior squad together for the second half of what promises to be another Premier League and Champions League challenging campaign.

But, as this site revealed on Tuesday (23 November), Newcastle are planning to make only loan signings in the mid-season window.

The club's hierarchy believe it would be better to use the loan market amid fears of spending big money on stars and then getting relegated.

Ake has been a bit-part player at City since joining in the summer of 2020 from Bournemouth for £40m on a five-year contract.

He is the fourth choice centre-back in Guardiola's all-star side, with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ake has made seven appearances fo City this season, four of which have been starts in the Premier League and Champions League.

The Dutchman, who had joined Chelsea as a 16-year-old, was an unused sub once again in midweek as City defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-1.
