Middlesbrough have registered their interest in signing Kean Bryan after his Sheffield United exit, Football Insider has learned.

The Championship club have set their sights on the newly-available 24-year-old as they look to strengthen in defence.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro manager Neil Warnock is a big admirer of Bryan.

The north-east outfit face competition for the former England youth international’s signature from rival EFL teams.

Bryan is currently out of contract after his old terms expired last month.

Sheffield United have offered the centre back a new deal.

However, he has not accepted the offer and is weighing up his options ahead of the new season.

The former England U20 international could become the 6th signing of the window in an already busy summer for manager Neil Warnock.

Lee Peltier, Joe Lumley, Sammy Ameobi have all joined Middlesbrough on free transfers.

Meanwhile, Matt Crooks has signed from Rotherham and Uche Ikpeazu has arrived from Wycombe Wanderers.

All the new signings, except Ameobi, were in the squad for Friday's pre-season win over Rotherham United.

Bryan was originally a box-to-box midfielder before being converted into a central defender.

After loan spells at Bury and Oldham Athletic, Bryan joined the Blades on a free transfer in 2018 after being released by Man City.

He made 19 appearances for Sheffield United overall, netting just once in a 1-2 away win at Old Trafford.
