Newcastle United are closely monitoring Leeds United star Tyler Roberts, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

He is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and has yet to agree an extension.

A source has told Football Insider Newcastle are keeping close tabs on his situation and are weighing up a move.

Leeds value the Wales international at around the £10million mark.

Marcelo Bielsa wants to secure him to an extension as he is versatile and has room for improvement. Leeds appreciate his flexibility in being able to play as a number 8, 9 or 10.

Roberts had started the Whites' last 12 Premier League fixtures before being limited to a role from the bench in their 4-0 win over Burnley today.

The 22-year-old now has 25 top-flight appearances under his belt this season - three more games than he played last term in the Championship.

However, he has lacked a clinical edge and is yet to find the net in the Premier League but has two assists to his name.

He told LUTV: "I'm very critical of my own game and that's something that I know needs to improve but I feel like my performances have been strong."

Leeds are set for a top-half finish in their first Premier League campaign in 16 years and will finish above Newcastle.

The Magpies cannot catch the Yorkshire giants but have secured their top-flight status for another season.

Steve Bruce revealed this week he is already putting in plans for next season as he eyes a top-10 finish.
