Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Coventry City are plotting moves to sign Birmingham City defender Kristian Pedersen this month, Football Insider understands.

The 27-year-old, who can play at left-back or as part of a three-man backline, is out of contract at St Andrew's this summer and has yet to agree a new deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley, Forest and Coventry are all admirers of the Denmark international.

They have registered their interest in Pederson as they eye a cut-price deal in the January window.

He has featured in 19 games across all competitions for the Blues this season and is a key player in Lee Bowyer's defence.

Pedersen has predominately been used on the left-hand side of Bowyer's back three.

Steve Cooper has lined up Nottingham Forest with a back three to great success after taking over earlier this season.

Coventry City also line up in a 3-5-2 formation under Mark Robins while Sean Dyche employs a conventional back four at Burnley.

There is uncertainty over the future of Burnley's current third-choice left-back Anthony Glennon.

Erik Pieters is also out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the current campaign.

Pedersen's 142 appearances across all competition for Birmingham have yielded seven goals and six assists.
