Rob Edwards is now the clear front-runner to become the new Luton Town manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Watford boss, 39, is currently out of work after being sacked by the Hornets earlier this season following a short spell in charge.

It is believed Edwards was interviewed for the Luton post on Monday (14 November) and he hugely impressed club officials.

Edwards is in pole position to land the post with the 10th-placed Championship club.

Luton Town are looking for a new manager after Nathan Jones left last week (10 November) to take over at Premier League club Southampton.

Jones took coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan with him to St. Mary's leaving Mick Harford in interim charge of the Hatters.

Edwards left Watford at the end of September after just 11 games in charge.

He guided the club to three wins in 10 Championship fixtures and his successor, Slaven Bilic, has produced similar results.

The former Wolves defender earned the job at Watford after guiding Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title last season.

He has also had spells in charge at AFC Telford United and England Under-16s.

Luton Town are next in action next month (10 December) when they host Middlesbrough at Kenilworth Road.
