Sources: Rochdale agree to sign Birmingham City star Andrews
Rochdale have agreed to sign Birmingham City striker Josh Andrews, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The League Two outfit have made a breakthrough in negotiations over a deal for the towering frontman.
A Birmingham source has told Football Insider that the 19-year-old is heading to Rochdale on a season-long loan.
The Championship club believe a full year of regular first team football will be beneficial for the development of the lifelong Blues fan.
Andrews put pen to paper on his first professional deal at St. Andrews in July 2020.
The contract is due to expire next summer but the club hold the option of a 12-month extension.
A product of Birmingham's esteemed academy, Andrews has been a regular feature of the club's Under-23s over the past few seasons.
In February, he made a short-term loan move to Harrogate Town.
He featured three times for the League Two outfit but failed to score before returning to his hometown club this summer.
The 6ft 3in striker causes problems for opposition defences with his size and hold-up play and Rochdale boss Robbie Stockdale will be hoping that is the case this season.
Rochdale have already added Max Taylor, Sam Graham, George Broadbent and Corey O'Keefe to their ranks this summer.
But a striker is desperately needed following the departure of Stephen Humphrys to Wigan Athletic last month.
