Swansea City have agreed a fee with Ipswich Town for the signing of Flynn Downes, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Championship club are set to beat Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City to the capture of the midfielder.

A Swansea source has told Football Insider that the club have had a bid accepted by Ipswich for Downes.

He is now set to head out of Portman Road with a year remaining on his contract.

Many clubs, including Swansea, were impressed by the former England U20 international's performances last term.

The 22-year-old started 17 times for The Tractor Boys in League One in 2020-21 and his best spell came towards the end of the campaign.

Since graduating from Ipswich's academy in 2017, Downes has made 99 appearances for the club and netted three times.

The versatile midfielder became the club's youngest-ever captain when he led his side out for an FA Cup tie against Coventry in 2019.

Downes handed in a transfer request last September after multiple bids from Crystal Palace were rejected by the League One outfit.

New Swansea head coach Russell Martin is targeting a promotion push this year after last season's playoff final heartbreak against Brentford.

The Welsh giants have made four new additions to their squad this summer including 21-year-old Dutch forward Joël Piroe from PSV Eindhoven.
