Sources: Barnsley line up bid for Ipswich Town star Downes
Barnsley are lining up a move for Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes, Football Insider can reveal.
Tractor Boys boss Paul Cook has given the green light for the 22-year-old central midfielder to leave for the right offer this summer.
A source has told Football Insider Barnsley are reading a bid for Downes after their talent spotters were impressed by his displays last season.
The Ipswich academy graduate already has 99 first-team appearances under his belt.
He featured in 24 League One games, including 17 starts, in the recently completed season and even captained the side on occasion as Town finished in ninth-position.
However, he has now emerged as a target for Championship side Barnsley as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Downes actually submitted a transfer request last September after Ipswich turned down bids from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.
In an interview with the East Anglian Daily Times in January, he insisted he had “no regrets” as he backed himself to perform at a higher level.
Barnsley are preparing to mount a fresh promotion challenge after losing in the play-off semi-finals to Swansea City.
Tykes captain Alex Mowatt, who was named in the Sky Bet Championship team of the year, is out of contract at the end of the month and is future yet to be resolved.
