Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs scouts have regularly watched the 19-year-old in action - with Everton and Crystal Palace also keen on the highly-rated, top young player.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Tottenham recruitment chiefs feel Wharton is a potential star in the making.

The Lilywhites are readying a move for the England Under-20 international but a transfer is not likely to happen in the January window.

It is believed Blackburn will demand top dollar to part with the youngster this month.

Wharton signed a fresh long-term contract at Ewood Park just last month, keeping him at the club until June 2028.

The 19-year-old, who plays for the Lancashire outfit alongside brother Scott, has made 27 appearances this term - notching one goal and three assists.

He is one game away from hitting the milestone of 50 appearances for his boyhood club since making his first-team breakthrough in the 2022-23 campaign.

Wharton can play in a variety of midfield roles, including in a holding role.

Tottenham

Tottenham have emphasised signing young talent in recent seasons and moved to bring Ashley Phillips to the club from Blackburn in the most recent summer window.

Alejo Veliz, Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie are among the other starlets to join Spurs in recent windows.
