Tottenham are set to land a massive windfall after Sporting Lisbon had a £10.3million bid accepted for Marcus Edwards, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The former Spurs winger, 22, is on the move two years after quitting London for Portuguese outfit Vitoria in 2019.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Sporting are finalising the capture of Edwards following a breakthrough in talks.

Vitoria will only bank half of the fee, with the remainder going to former club Spurs due to a sell-on clause negotiated in the transfer two years ago.

The future-sale clause gives the London giants 50 per cent of his next transfer fee, which is over £5m.

That is a huge cash boost for Spurs after their academy product left following just a single senior appearance.

The left-footed winger has been a regular for Vitoria, with his 72 appearances yielding 12 goals and 12 assists.

He was statistically less successful in the recent campaign, scoring three and assisting three from 33 league matches.

Edwards was on Leeds' list of targets last summer for the right-flank slot before they eventually signed another left footer in the feted Raphinha.

The left-footed attacker had been hailed in his teens as a "future great" by Mauricio Pochettino, who compared him to Lionel Messi on the eve of his Tottenham debut at the age of 17.

But Edwards made only a single Spurs appearance before falling out of favour and Pochettino criticised the youngster's professionalism in his autobiography.
