'Spurs will regret it' - Exclusive: Agbonlahor reacts to Liverpool sighting
Tottenham Hotspur will be regretting selling full-back Kyle Walker-Peters in the summer, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker insisted the 23-year-old is having a "successful season" with Southampton.
Walker-Peters moved to St. Mary's for a reported £12million fee in August after spending the second half of last season on loan from Spurs.
He has been an ever-present in the Premier League this season for Ralph Hasenhutl's side who sit in sixth, just four points behind league leaders Liverpool.
They beat the Premier League champions 1-0 at St. Mary's on Monday night with Walker-Peters playing a key role in the second defence that have stopped the Reds scoring this term.
Spurs have had issues at right-back in recent weeks with Serge Aurier being dramatically dropped after giving away a needless penalty against Leicester City on December 20.
He was replaced with summer signing Matt Doherty but the Irishman was sent off for two yellow card offences against Leeds United on Saturday.
Asked by Football Insider whether the north London outfit may be regretting letting Walker-Peters leave given their issues, Agbonlahor said: “I think so.
“I think he’s done really well all season for Southampton.
“Sometimes when you get sold, like he did, you want to prove the team wrong that let you go and that’s what he’s done.
“He’s had a successful season so far.
“Definitely Spurs will regret it [letting him go] because he’s a quality, quality defender.”
Walker-Peters played 24 times for Spurs but only once after Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.
His only appearance under Mourinho was in a dead rubber Champions League group game against Bayern Munich in December 2019.
