This may be real reason Everton feel cheated by officials - pundit
Everton felt wronged by the officials in Sunday's stalemate with Tottenham as Richarlison would have had a goalscoring opportunity if an advantage or no penalty had been given.
That is the view of former Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the pivotal moment in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.
Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot when he adjudged Hugo Lloris to have tripped Richarlison after 63 minutes.
However, after consulting the pitch-side monitor on the advice of VAR the decision was overturned.
Richarlison emerged from Lloris' challenge with the ball and would have had a shooting opportunity had the referee played on.
When asked by Football Insider if the Toffees had reason to be angry, Robinson said: "I think that might be why Everton felt so hard done by.
"That is VAR's downfall I guess. You don't want referees not to referee. We had that for so long last season. Referees were relying too heavily on VAR.
"Referees were in effect not reffing the game at times. We have all been crying out for referees to make decisions and nine times out of 10 it works.
"This is a situation where it worked to the detriment of Everton. The referee thought it was a penalty, he gave a penalty and there was no advantage for Richarlison.
"That is why Everton feel hard done by. If it wasn't a penalty they had a good opportunity to score. The referee should have played advantage."
