Mangerless West Bromwich Albion nearly caused a massive upset at Wembley but still ruffled Mauricio Pochettino's feathers, leaving with a creditable and more-than-deserved 1-1 draw at Wembley on Saturday.

Spurs will be relieved to get a point after so many players underperformed as, despite dominating possession, they hardly created any clear-cut chances in the game.

This disappointing league result comes on the back of the frustration over the performance of the team in Spurs' last league game against Arsenal, where they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund in midweek but fans will be frustrated that they seem to be doing the reverse of last year when good Premier League performances were matched with woeful displays in Europe.

Harry Kane had previously scored six goals in five Premier League appearances against West Bromwich Albion and he kept his goal scoring record going to gain his side a valuable point after a cross from Dele Alli.

Tottenham need to sign Zaha

West Bromwich Albion, despite having let Tony Pulis go, defended deep and there was nothing Spurs seemed to be able to do about it. Only Son Heung-min was attempting to run at WBA's defence, and he was having real success. Spurs always find themselves linked to Wilfried Zaha and it's easy to see why – he's exactly the sort of player they need. Until today's game, Crystal Palace have only got points from games where the 25-year-old has scored and they will be loathe to let him leave. However, if Spurs want to get their title run back on track, he's the man they need and Daniel Levy needs to make sure it happens.

Where's the response?

WBA's opening goal came in the third minute of the game and fans didn't get a reaction from Spurs until the second half. By that point it was tough to see them winning the game. If Spurs really want to be considered a threat this season they need to be able to get out of cruise control quicker, especially when they find themselves a goal down. While the early goal was a shock, players have to step up and react. Tottenham are lucky Harry Kane is so clinical otherwise they could have left Wembley with nothing.

Never write off Harry Kane

Harry Kane was quiet in Tottenham's last league outing against Arsenal before getting back in the goals against Dortmund in mid-week. Even if there is still some rust after missing a couple of games due to injury, he is always Tottenham's hero. Some fans were surprised that when Fernando Llorente was added to the game, he didn't replace Harry Kane. Pochettino will be gloating about the decision to keep the forward on the pitch as he clinically finished Dele Alli's cross to earn Spurs a point.
