Tottenham are working on a potential deal to sign Juventus star Weston McKennie this summer, sources have told Football Insider

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the USA international is unlikely to be at the top of Spurs’ list as they look to sign a new central midfielder over the coming weeks.

Aston Villa were thought to be close to reaching a deal for McKennie as part of a complex swap deal, but talks have now stalled, opening the door for other clubs to swoop in.

Spurs have held talks with Juventus over a £15million deal to sign McKennie, whose contract with the Italian giants is set to expire in June 2025.

Tottenham could sign Weston McKennie after Aston Villa snub

McKennie had looked set to join Villa as part of a swap deal with teammate Samuel Iling-Junior that would see Douglas Luiz sign for Juventus.

But McKennie is believed to have priced himself out of a move to Villa Park, with Tottenham now in talks over a potential deal to sign him.

Spurs are expected to be joined by some of their fellow Premier League sides in the race to land the American ahead of his contract expiring next year.

McKennie previously had a disappointing loan spell in the Premier League with Leeds United in the 2022-23 season, where he registered just one assist in 20 appearances.

But after returning to Italy last summer, the midfielder started in 33 of his 38 appearances for Juventus last season, registering 10 assists in the process.
