Tottenham have jumped the queue ahead of Aston Villa in the race to sign midfielder Weston McKennie, sources have told Football Insider

Villa were thought to be close to reaching a deal for the Juventus star as part of a complex swap deal, but talks have now stalled, opening the door for other clubs to swoop in.

Sources say Spurs have hijacked the West Midlands giants’ move by agreeing a cut-price fee for McKennie, 25.

Talks have now taken place with Juventus over a £15million deal to sign the USA international this summer.

The midfielder’s contract with the Italian giants is set to expire in June 2025.

Weston McKennie could make Tottenham switch after Aston Villa talks update

McKennie had looked set to join Villa as part of a swap deal with teammate Samuel Iling-Junior that would see Douglas Luiz sign for Juventus.

Tottenham have now made their move to sign the American this summer after opening talks with Juventus about his availability.

McKennie previously had a disappointing loan spell in the Premier League with Leeds United in the 2022-23 season, where he registered just one assist in 20 appearances.

But after returning to Italy last summer, the midfielder started in 33 of his 38 appearances for Juventus last season, registering 10 assists in the process.
