Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vicker has opened talks over a late-window move to Luton Town, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, 22, cut short his season-long loan at Stoke City at the end of last month and is now in line for the latest in a series of transfers to Championship clubs.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the club are in negotiations with Luton and there is hope that a deal can be agreed.

The relegation battlers are bottom of the Championship and six points adrift of safety.

They have comfortably the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 63 goals from their 29 matches in the league this season.

But Carter-Vickers is eager to join a side where he will play regularly after losing his place in the Stoke starting line-up following Michael O'Neills arrival as manager.

Football Insider broke the news in December that Carter-Vickers' loan at Stoke was set to be terminated.

It was the defender's fourth consecutive loan at a Championship club after spells at Swansea City, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United in the previous three seasons.

Now he is in line for a fifth as the possibility increases that he won't play for the Tottenham senior side again.

The club value the versatile defender, who has a contract that runs until the summer of 2021, at around the £4million mark but no club is currently willing to meet that asking price.
