Robbie Keane has announced his decision to retire from the Ireland national side, and fans of his former side Tottenham have congratulated him on his career.

The 36-year-old will play his final game in the famous green jersey when they play a friendly against Oman on 31 August.

Keane is his country’s most prolific scorer, with 67 goals in 145 games over a staggering 18 year period.

The former Tottenham striker has also played for Leeds, Wolves, Coventry, Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham and Aston Villa in the UK as well as teams in Europe. He is currently playing for LA Galaxy in the MLS, where he has scored an impressive 101 goals in 158 games across all competitions.

Following his decision to retire from international football, Tottenham fans took to Twitter to hail the career of the player who is 13th on the all-time list of international goal-scorers.
