Tottenham sensation Luca Gunter is being lined up for his long-awaited Under-18s debut after recovering from injury, Football Insider has learned.

The goalkeeper, 16, has yet to play for the club's age-group teams since joining the club's scholarship intake in the summer.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Gunter sustained an injury while on England duty at the beginning of the season.

But the England Under-16 number one is now fully recovered and has been given the all-clear to make his comeback.

That is a boost to the Spurs academy, who regard the youngster as a first-team star of the future.

Gunter is so highly rated he was secured to a two-year scholarship contract a year early.

That is extremely unusual for a club like Tottenham, who tend not to plan that far ahead except in exceptional cases.

The London giants typically offer scholarships around February or March, with the deals then starting on 1 June.

Gunter is set to compete for a starting spot in the Tottenham Under-18s side with the likes of Thimothée Lo-Tutala and second-year scholars Adam Hayton and Aaron Maguire.

Hayton has started four of the Under-18s league matches this season, while Lo-Tutula has been in goal for the other two.

Maguire, who, like Hayton is 17, has not featured for the Under-18s this season after making five Under-18 Premier League starts last term.
