Paul Robinson is over the moon to hear Tottenham forward Son Heung-min will be fit for the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one feared injury would deny the 30-year-old the "massive honour" of representing his country at football's most prestigious tournament.

Son was forced off through injury in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League last week (1 November).

Subsequently, the South Korea international had surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye last Friday (4 November).

The injury put the winger's participation in the 2022 World Cup in doubt.

However, Son confirmed on his personal Instagram (9 November) that he is doing well and will recover in time for the tournament, which kicks off on 20 November.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the confirmation by the player, Robinson said: "It is brilliant to hear that.

"The World Cup is a massive tournament that every player wants to play in. These are the moments you dream of as a footballer.

"It will be a massive honour for him to represent his country at the World Cup. It would have been blow if he was ruled out.

"I thought it looked like a bad injury. Everyone, club and country, will be over the moon that he is recovering quickly. It is good news all-round."
