Paul Robinson is "surprised" to hear Tottenham have cooled their interest in re-signing Christian Eriksen.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said there is a place for the 30-year-old "in any Premier League squad."

Eriksen is available as a free agent this summer with his short-term contract at Brentford expiring.

Man United

Spurs, Man United and Brentford have shown an interest in signing the Denmark international on a free transfer.

However, a Spurs source told Football Insider (24 June) that the club have pulled the plug on their pursuit of Eriksen.

Fabio Paratici is concentrating on other targets instead.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to Tottenham ending their interest in the attacking midfielder, Robinson said: "Eriksen isn't a player who would start every week at Spurs.

"The system doesn't exactly suit him. He could play as part of the front three, just behind [Harry] Kane.

"I truly believe there is a place for Eriksen in any Premier League squad.

"To hear that they are going cold on it surprises me. I'm disappointed.

"It would be a fitting end when you take into account what has happened over the last couple of years. It would be romantic to see him back at Spurs.

"Eriksen will make a decision that is right for him and his family. Wherever he ends up, it is just great to see him playing football again."
