Paddy Kenny has backed Tottenham to complete an "easy" deal for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider,
insists Spurs are in desperate need of a new central defender.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has set his sights on a move after being left insulted by Chelsea’s most recent offer.

Rudiger has played a key role at Chelsea this season, making 23 appearances in all competitions.

Kenny claims a deal for Rudiger should be "easy" to complete considering he already lives in London.

"That seems like an easy deal to do for me," Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"He lives in London, he's probably settled in the UK and he knows Conte.

"He's also on a free so Tottenham won't have to shell out on anything other than wages.

"Spurs also need a centre-half badly. The goal they conceded to West Ham the other night came from sloppy play at the back.

"Rudiger has been brilliant this season and he has so much experience. He's still a Germany international.

"They need to strengthen that area and Rudiger looks like an ideal target.

"Obviously it's up to him. He might want to go abroad and have a better chance of winning trophies.

"We don't know. But Spurs are a club on the up, I can see it happening."

Rudiger can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs when the transfer window opens on 1 January.

He has made a total of 172 appearances for the Blues.
