Teenage sensation Mohamed-Ali Cho is "exactly the type of signing Tottenham have to make", according to Alan Hutton.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 18-year-old could benefit from playing with Harry Kane.

This site exclusively revealed on Monday (24 January) that Tottenham have opened talks over signing Angers forward Cho, who is capped at Under-21 level by France.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that discussions are underway over a deal for the forward worth around £16.7million.

Cho has netted two goals in 14 Ligue 1 starts this term.

Hutton backed Tottenham to get a deal over the line in the transfer window's final days.

“This is exactly the type of signing they have to make when looking for a striker,” he told Football Insider's Russell Edge.

“When you think about it, trying to sign a top striker and telling him he will be second fiddle to Harry Kane – it’s very difficult to get someone in.

“But if you’ve got someone who is only 18 with bags of potential, there’s a big opportunity for him. He can get some minutes but most importantly learn from the likes of Kane and become that top, top player.

“That’s what Tottenham have to aim for. Antonio Conte only plays with the one striker, so there’s no real need to bring two in.”

Seventh-placed Tottenham are hoping to be one of the busiest clubs in the final days of the window.

Antonio Conte's side are yet to make a signing this month despite the Italian's public pleas for reinforcements.
