West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry is in advanced talks over a loan move to MK Dons, Football Insider understands.

The 21-year-old has only recently returned to the London Stadium after the Hammers cut short his season-long loan spell at Peterborough.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that West Ham are keen to send Coventry back out on loan and MK Dons have moved quickly to try and secure a deal.

Negotiations are progressing well and all parties are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming days.

Hammers boss David Moyes has given the green light to Coventry securing what would be his third loan move from his parent club.

He spent the second half of 2019-20 at Lincoln City before heading to Championship outfit Peterborough in the opening half of this season.

Coventry, who is a central midfielder, started well and began as a key player but he has struggled for game time in recent months.

That led to West Ham activating the recall clause in his loan and opting for a new team for their academy product.

MK Dons are seventh in League One and well placed to secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

Coventry is highly rated among the West Ham fan base after a string of impressive performances in pre-season.

However, he has made just three appearances for the first team in competitive games.

The Ireland Under-21 international played seven times for Lincoln in the 2019-20 campaign before the season was curtailed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

At Peterborough, he made four league starts among 12 appearances in all competitions.
