West Ham tipped to beat Villa and Newcastle to Digne signing after source's reveal - pundit

Lucas Digne will choose to sign for West Ham ahead of Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Digne’s next move.

Football Insider broke the news on Wednesday (5 January) that Aston Villa have set their sights on signing the Goodison left-back this month.

This comes after the 28-year-old fell out with Toffees boss Rafael Benitez.

There is also interest from Newcastle and other Premier League clubs and Kenny claims Digne will push to join West Ham.

“Newcastle isn’t very appealing to someone like Digne,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There is nothing there for him other than a bit more cash, I’m sure he’s not struggling for money.

“You look at which team could do with a left-back and which team is also having another really good season. It’s West Ham.

“They are in Europe and I would be shocked if they didn’t get into Europe again this season.

“At the moment it’s a step up from Everton so I think Digne will be all over that.

“He won’t fancy a relegation battle and West Ham are clear of Villa right now.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Digne joined West Ham now.”

David Moyes’ side finished 6th in the league last term and are currently perched in 5th place after 20 matches in 2021-22.

Their next league game is against Norwich on Wednesday (12 January).
