Campbell: West Ham must make Armstrong move now amid key development
West Ham must strike now if they are to secure a deal for Blackburn Rovers goalscorer and defenders' "nightmare" Adam Armstrong.
That is according to ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after The Sun revealed that West Ham remain keen on the striker but are reluctant to shell out Blackburn's £25million asking price.
Armstrong - an U-20 World Cup winner with England in 2017 - has 19 goals in the Championship this season.
Michail Antonio has been West Ham's only natural centre-forward option since Sebastien Haller departed the club for Ajax in January.
Campbell highlighted West Ham's anaemic forward line, urging them to abandon other targets and secure the 24-year-old's signature before someone else does
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: "The squad strength isn't quite there at West Ham. Antonio is a great player but if he needs a rest, there isn't really someone who can come in and be that guy.
"Moyes is limited with who he can pick up top. Armstrong has had a good season and I think will be a good signing for West Ham and they should probably make that move before he goes somewhere else.
"He's a handful. Small strikers are a nightmare for centre-halves because centre-halves are almost always tall."
Armstrong signed for Blackburn permanently in summer 2018 after spending half a season on loan at Ewood Park the previous campaign.
He has been deployed primarily as a winger in his time in East Lancashire but is now flourishing in his preferred role through the middle.
