Man United have set their sights on a move for West Ham star Edson Alvarez this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Erik ten Hag is still a fan of Alvarez after working with him at Ajax.

Football Insider reported on 18 May that Man United are actively working to sell Casemiro after a difficult season, with a deal for the Brazilian to leave Old Trafford freeing up wages for a replacement.

It is believed that the chance to reunite with Ten Hag will appeal to Alvarez, who made a big impression at West Ham in his debut season.

Man United are poised to enquire for Benfica's Joao Neves should they fail for their primary target - he however has a £70m release clause which is not anticipated to be met by United in the summer window.

United are prioritising the need to "restructure" their midfield ahead of next season, with Ten Hag in need of a strong start to 2024-25.

West Ham looking to price Man United out of Alvarez move

West Ham rate Alvarez highly and will demand a fee in excess of £40million for the defensive midfielder.

Football Insider revealed on 1 May that Alvarez was among a number of players West Ham are braced to push for a move away this summer in the midst of the East London club's transition period.

Alvarez is contracted to West Ham until the summer of 2028 after signing from Ajax last summer for a fee of around £35m.
